Safeguarding Policy for LearnLots
1. Introduction
At LearnLots, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people who engage with our services. This policy outlines our approach to ensuring their safety and well-being in compliance with UK safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, and the Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all staff, tutors, volunteers, and anyone working on behalf of LearnLots.
3. Key Principles
• Child-Centred Approach: The welfare of the child is paramount.
• Equality and Diversity: All children have the right to protection from abuse regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, or beliefs.
• Empowerment: Children and young people should be supported to understand their rights and know how to seek help if needed.
4. Roles and Responsibilities
• Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Nathan Keeling is responsible for overseeing safeguarding practices, providing advice and support to staff, and ensuring compliance with this policy.
• Staff and Tutors: All staff and tutors must undergo safeguarding training, adhere to this policy, and report any concerns to the DSL.
5. Recruitment and Training
• Background Checks: Staff and tutors must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, when required, before commencing work.
• Training: All staff and tutors must complete safeguarding training at induction and receive regular updates.
6. Online Safety
• Secure Platforms: Use secure online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) for conducting sessions. Ensure sessions are password-protected and accessible only to enrolled students.
• Recording of Sessions: Sessions will be recorded for safeguarding and catch-up purposes. Recordings will be stored securely and accessed only by authorized personnel and enrolled students.
7. Recognising and Responding to Concerns
• Signs of Abuse: Staff and tutors must be vigilant for signs of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect.
• Reporting: Any concerns about a child’s welfare must be reported immediately to the DSL. The DSL will take appropriate action, which may include contacting local authorities or other relevant agencies.
8. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
• Confidentiality: All safeguarding concerns must be handled with confidentiality. Information should only be shared with those who need to know.
• Information Sharing: When necessary, information will be shared with relevant authorities in line with data protection laws and safeguarding guidelines.
9. Monitoring and Review
